The horned iguana or rhinoceros iguana (Cyclura cornuta) is a species of scaly reptile of the Iguanidae family. It is endemic to the island of Hispaniola. There are two subspecies in danger of extinction due to the pressure of man on the insular environments that this reptile occupies.
Weight: 5kg. Size: 1.10m. Longevity: 16 years. Number of eggs/year: 11 eggs. The rhinoceros iguana owes its name to the three horns on the top of its snout. It moves on land, raising its head, in search of leaves, fruits, flowers and seeds. When threatened, it puts its paws around its neck or defends itself by striking violent blows with its tail.
