The African Clawed Frog (Xenopus laevis) is an aquatic species of South African frog in the family Pipidae. It reaches 12 cm in length with a flattened head and body but without a tongue. Its name comes from the three nails on its hind legs, whose function is to remove the mud to hide from predators. Introduced in Europe and America, it has become a plague in some countries that threatens the local fauna.
