The Australian green tree frog, White’s tree frog, or stubby tree frog (Litoria caerulea) is a species of anuran amphibian in the family Pelodryadidae native to Australia and New Guinea, with introduced populations in New Zealand and the United States.
The green tree frog is a large species compared to most other Australian frog species, reaching 10 cm in length. The average life span of Litoria caerulea in captivity, about 16 years, is longer than that of other frogs. Green tree frogs are docile and adapted to life near human dwellings. They are often found in windows or inside houses, eating insects attracted to light.
Due to its behavior and physical features, Litoria caerulea has become one of the best known frogs in its region of origin and a popular exotic pet around the world. Frog skin secretions have antiviral and antiseptic properties that may be useful in pharmaceutical preparations.
