The Surinam horned frog (Ceratophrys cornuta) is a species of anuran amphibian of the Ceratophryidae family, typical of the entire Amazon basin, found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Venezuela and the Guianas.
It is bulky, measuring up to 20 centimeters. It has an exceptionally wide mouth, and has two horn-like projections above its eyes. The females lay up to 1,000 eggs per spawning and wrap them around aquatic plants.
It feeds on other frogs, lizards and mice. Surinam scorpion tadpoles attack tadpoles of other species.
